This Special Edition will correspond with NROPI's Inaugural Youth and Community Building Conference in Baltimore, Maryland on July 19-21, 2013. Submissions that address cultural-specific policy, theory, practice, research and reflection broadly related to "Rites of Passage" including community building/regeneration, child/youth development, education/socialization, faith and spirituality, and restorative justice are requested. Submissions will be selected by a peer review process that will include members from the editorial staff of the Black Child Journal and the NROPI network.
Manuscripts should be prepared according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Sixth Edition (APA, 2009). All parts of the manuscript must be submitted electronically as an attachment to email ("Manuscript Submission" in the subject box) to mcedwards1022@sbcglobal.net. Documents from 6,500 to 10,000 words with an abstract of 250 words should be submitted as MS Word documents (.doc), not converted to PDFs. Submissions must be received by March 29, 2013 at 11:59 pm Pacific Time.
Authors are asked to submit a short bio and black and white electronic photo as separate attachments. Notification of papers selected will be made by email in May, 2013. Authors selected for publication are requested to participate in the NROPI Inaugural Youth and Community Building Conference on Saturday, July 20, 2013. In this plenary session, all authors will make a "TEDX" style presentation of their papers (10 minutes) concluded by a final 20 minute dialogue with conference participants. The Special Edition will be published in June 2013 and will be available on the NROPI website for conference participants to read in advance and reference after the conference.
